What is January’s birthstone?

January’s birthstone is garnet, a symbol of love. And it is also thought to improve the owner’s imagination and passion and shield from bad thoughts. Legend says garnets even protect their owners from nightmares.

And last, but not least, the gem is thought to keep the wearer protected during travels.

Thousands of years ago, Romans used garnets as signet rings to seal the documents of huge importance. And Egyptian pharaohs were also big fans of this elegant crystal.

The name Garnet derived from the Latin word granatum. It translates as the seed. Because the stone looks very similar to those red polished pomegranate seeds.

Indeed, the most common garnet featured in birthstone jewelry is a dark, deep red that is almost brown. Although this gem is mined in almost any colors possible: brown, green, yellow, black, orange, pink and colorless. The rarest garnets are blue.

The garnet is associated with faith, love, and faith is considered a great gift to symbolize friendship and trust, and not only to show appreciation to all January-born people. So, all in all, it’s a beautiful stone with a lovely meaning.
